This includes pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchitis, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, bacterial sinusitis, upper and lower respiratory tract infections, eye infections, bacterial conjunctivitis, conjunctivitis, middle ear infections, acute otitis media, tonsillitis, pertussis, pharyngitis (strep throat), cystic fibrosis, traveler's diarrhea, intestinal infections, typhoid fever, toxoplasmosis, malaria, babesiosis, bartonellosis, trachoma, urethritis, cervicitis, genital ulcer disease (chancroid) in men, sexually transmitted infections, gonorrhea and chlamydia infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, granuloma inguinale, borrelial infections, Lyme disease, acne vulgaris, skin and skin structure infections, soft tissue infections; to prevent bacterial endocarditis; in veterinary medicine. Azithromycin works by slowing the growth or sometimes killing sensitive bacteria by reducing the production of important proteins needed these bacteria to survive.
